A free home, built on a promise
Mathru means 'mother'. For us, that means giving children the care, support and confidence they need to move forward.
How we grew
Chapter by chapter
- 2005
It started with a request
Prashanth came to Hyderabad to visit his cousin Archana. During the visit, they met the children living at what would later become Mathru Foundation. When the people running the home decided to move on, one of the children asked Prashanth and Archana to stay and continue caring for them. They agreed. That promise became the beginning of Mathru.
- 2022
The trust was registered
Mathru Foundation was formally registered as a charitable trust with the Income Tax Department in Hyderabad. With 12A and 80G recognition in place, donations to the home are now tax-deductible.
- Today
A home in Safilguda
Today, about 25 children live at the Balram Nagar home. They include orphaned, blind and disabled children, including children living with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and locomotor conditions. Children come from Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, including places such as Mysore, Ankola, Channapatna, Shimoga and Raichur.

Shelter comes first
A safe home, regular meals and medical support give a child the foundation to learn, grow and dream about the future.
Education should fit the child
Children can study in English or Telugu medium based on their needs and interests. Along with school support and tuition, Mathru provides computer training and Braille books for children who are blind.
The door stays open
Birthdays, anniversaries and family visits are celebrated at the home. Visitors are welcome to spend time with the children, understand their everyday lives and contribute in ways that are useful.

About ₹11,600 can cover a child's education for one year, including the school support already provided by the foundation.

A week's groceries for the home cost about ₹23,000–₹25,000, but every bit helps. Rice, provisions and other essentials are always welcome.

Celebrate a birthday, anniversary or family occasion at the home. Share a meal, spend time with the children and leave something useful behind.
